Changes in Tsibogang’s Management

All roads led to Mafikeng for 124 members of Tsibogang to attend this year’s annual general meeting (AGM) held on the 25th of May. Members of the various action groups and programs such as Tshepanang (peer education in schools), Tlamelang (home based care), the Early Learning Centres and Afterschool programs, Amogelang and A re tshamekeng bana (self-help groups for adults and children living with HIV) and A re Ageng Morafe (men’s group against gender-based violence, GBV) and members of the management committee came together in the Centre’s head office.

The AGM is always an opportunity to look back on the year as a collective and learn about other Action Group’s activities and plans. Each Action Group and program presented their achievements of 2023/2024 and plans (objectives) for the year 2024/2025. This allows members from other groups to ask questions and see progress or challenges of the whole organisation.

Tsibogang is in the process of transitioning from being run under the leadership of Dr. Wolfgang Hermann to a leadership without him.

Therefore, some constitutional amendments were made to allow in future the leadership to be shared among project managers as opposed to only having one coordinator. The second amendment concerned the engagement in activities against gender-based violence and substance abuse, which is rife in South Africa and contributes to other social ills such as poverty, HIV, single mother families and vulnerability of women and children to exploitation.

Thirdly, this year a new management committee had to be elected.

Therefore, the elections – together with the presently running management course – were an important part of preparing for the future. The management committee is constituted by representtatives nominated from each action group, the two biggest churches (Roman Catholic and Lutheran), the local priest and the Spiritual community Koinonia. In addition, two direct mandates are filled by electing members from the AGM. The then constituted committee appoints a coordinator and can co-opt additional members if they wish to do so. Resulting from this process the following members are fulfilling the oversight role for the period of 2024-2026.

  1. Chairperson : Theresa Mokgoro
  2. Deputy chairperson : Thelma Monageng (Tshepanang)
  3. Secretary : Undine Rauter
